Paul Graham, Summer 2007

I contacted Claire after seeing her out with one of my friends on a training run and thought what a great idea it would be to have a personal trainer.  I had stopped doing any physical exercise three years ago after hurting my back in a bad fall, before the fall I used to go circuit training a couple of times a week.

Being desk bound I steadily gained weight and went from 16 stone to my heaviest weight ever of 17-4lb in October 2006.  I also had a 40-inch waist and did not feel good about myself.  I was also struggling to keep up with my 3-year-old son and decided it was time for action.

I contacted Claire who came to see me, she was very personable and professional in her approach and I felt very comfortable with her straight away.  Claire asked me what my objectives were, which was easy as I wanted to lose weight and to get back to my previous level of fitness.

Paul Prior to training Paul at Bala Olympic Triathlon September 2007

We agreed a programme schedule together and set about putting it into place, the thing I found so helpful was actually setting a specific time each week to train with Claire.  Knowing that I had to report in my activity each week gave me the discipline to keep up with my training sessions in between my workouts with Claire.

The objectives set were realistic and keeping a food diary helped me look at the bad habits I had picked up, I have now modified my eating habits but have not dieted, it was more a case of just being healthy and working out more.

The benefits of training with Claire have been fantastic.  I now weigh 15 stone, have a size 36-inch waist and have so much more energy, being able to keep up with my four-year-old boy now is priceless.  I have also got the bug for triathlons and have completed 5 Sprint distances this year so far, my best time for the 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run was 1hour 31mins, not bad is I say so myself for a 48 year old who last year could not have run more that 2-3 mile without feeling unwell.

My new target is to complete the Olympic distance triathlon at Bala lake in September which is 1500m swim, 40km bike ride and 10 km run in under 3hrs which I am sure I will do as anything is possible if you put your mind to it! But you still have to do the work!!!

My advice is take small steps to start with and set yourself achievable targets, without which you would not have any goals to work towards, that's why Claire has helped me so much, I can recommend her training methods to anyone.

It works if you work it!

NEWS FLASH NEWS FLASH.........

Proof the old man lives on .... I have just completed my first Olympic distance triathlon with 1000 m swim it was supposed to be 1500m but due to weather conditions and safety it was reduced to 1000m, it was still hard as hell with waves 2-3 feet. Bike 40k = 25mile followed by run 10k=6.25mile  my official time was 2 hours 49 minutes .   Bring on the bejing olympics!!!!! Ha ha  Paul Graham
